PROPORTIONAL PIPE ORGANS

Eltec’s ORGDRIVE-CP25 Proportional control system enables Organists to control the opening of a pallet directly in relation to its corresponding key.
Essentially, the system splits the movement of each key into 128 individual levels using Hall sensors. In the organ, specially-designed magnets re-convert these levels into 128 individual pallet movements
The main components of the system are as follows:
Proportional Keys. A Hall effect sensor connected to each key breaks down its travel into 128 values (levels) and converts these into an input for transmission. The system’s accuracy and regularity is assured: any inaccuracies in the keys themselves (like simple makers’ errors or temperature changes) are quickly compensated for using the system’s set-up software.
Please note that proportional keyboards (described in the Accessories page under “Static Keyboard with Hall Sensors”) can also be used with a standard Orgdrive system: eliminating traditional key-contacts provides an appreciable increase in all-round reliability.
Proportional magnets. These are specially designed to open a soundboard pallet in a gradual and controlled way, exactly in accordance with the key-movement data from the console.
To maintain their accuracy, proportional magnets will also “re-learn” pallet positions automatically: this way, the natural “bedding-in” and settling of pallets can be allowed for. A simple self-learning sequence can be periodically and automatically sent to every magnet using a simple command from the console.
Along with the unique functions described above, the ORGDRIVE-CP25 system embodies the programmability, reliability, flexibility, and simplicity of installation of the STANDARD ORGDRIVE system:
Programmability. In addition to notes, stops and combinations, all console functions (such as full organ and crescendos) and other organ functions (like swell shutter control) are all managed by the same system. Every function can be activated in the organ itself via any Personal Computer equipped with a standard serial RS232, using software provided and updated free by Eltec.
This software enables organ builders and organists to configure the system and adapt it precisely to their needs – from eight 61-note keyboards (a total of 498 inputs) to a single manual with 58 keys and a 30-note pedalboard.
Alternative programming.
Organ builders can alternatively supply us with complete organ specifications. Eltec’s personnel will then configure the central processor and supply it pre-programmed and ready to use.
Characteristics. The ORGDRIVE-CP25 system enables 8 proportional keyboards to control a combination of proportional and standard outputs via a single card.
A single ORGDRIVE exchange installed in the Console (known as the Master) can control, via 6-way cables or a remote control, up to five ORGDRIVE Systems (or Slaves) installed in as many separate organ bodies irrespective of position.
Moreover, any ORGDRIVE system can be equipped with a comprehensive array of
accessories , described in detail on this site.
For more information, the site contains brochures that can be downloaded; Operation Manuals and other data are available directly from Eltec Automazioni by e-Mail, Telephone, or Fax.

Main characteristics and maximum limits of the ORGDRIVE system.
CONSOLE:

- Keyboards = 8 Keyboards - 61 Keys/Keyboard
- Stops = up to 250
- Full/Tutti/Reeds = 16 Inputs + 16 indicator outputs
- Fixed combinations = 4 Groups o max. 5 pistons with indicators (6 Inputs / 5   Outputs/Group)
- Crescendo = 99 Levels of Pedal input - 32 Levels of pedal position indicator output
- Cancels = 24 Inputs + 24 indicator outputs + General Cancel
- Transposer = 8 Inputs (-4 to +3 semitones) + 8 indicator outputs
- General Adjustables = 16 Pistons with indicators x 999 Levels – Level Freeze Option
- Departmental Adjustables = 8 Groups of 8 Pistons x 999 Levels or 16 independents levels
- Reversibles = 16 Inputs + 16 output indicators
- Auto Pedal = 1 Input + 1 output indicator
- Swell Control = 64 managed Inputs with contacts and/or three sliders for individual pedals.

Levels: 32 Levels of output indicator position for each of the pedals installed
- Radio Link = 1 Input + 1 output indication, 869 MHz

Important:
- All inputs can be programmed to be connected to momentary contacts (i.e. key contacts) or   switches, such as those on stop controls.
- The indicators can be omitted if not required.

ORGAN:
- Total Output Groups (Proportional + Standard) = 32
- Outputs for each Standard Group = 128
- Outputs for each Proportional Group = 128
- Stops = 250 Outputs with the option of just programming the outputs of the actual registers
- Swell Controls = 64 Outputs.

MAGNETS for THE PROPORTIONAL OPENING OF PALLETS
If ORGDRIVE-CP25 is the proportional system’s brain, the magnet is its heart. Its job, after all, is to follow the movement of the key as closely as possible, enabling the organist to naturally modulate the mode of attack directly - and electrically - from the console.
The magnet has the important job of detecting the “pluck” felt by the pallet in its first millimetre or so of travel. After that, the precise position of the pallet is maintained by the magnet, using a combination of considerable power and microprocessor control.

The ORGDRIVE-CP25 processor in the Console (Master) constantly reads and analyses the positions of every key, sending the resulting data to the ORGDRIVE-CP25 processor in the Organ (Slave). The processor in the Organ processes the data and, by means of proportional outputs, gives every magnet the position to which it needs to open the pallet connected to it.

The microprocessor on the magnet then reads both the current position of the pull-down and the final position (directly proportional to that of the key) to be reached a few thousandths of a second afterwards. The processor constantly corrects the current values in the coil, bringing the pull-down to position and keeping it there.

The installation of proportional magnets is similar to that of standard ON/OFF magnets: the only real difference is that the “self-learning” procedure has to be activated, enabling each magnet to memorise the closed and fully-open position of its pallet; the microprocessor on the magnet carries out the operation automatically and stores the data in its permanent memory.

After that, in order to compensate for any mechanical imperfection or temperature-related movement, the self-learning procedure can easily be repeated using the appropriate command from the console. The system carries out the operation completely automatically.

SOFTWARE
Demonstration software for installation on a PC can be downloaded from the download page.
Operating software is provided Eltec free of charge at the explicit request of organ builders.

The demonstration software enables every function to be programmed, but does NOT enable data to be transferred directly from a PC to the system.
The software offers the opportunity to:
• Programme every organ function using a PC (Windows 98 or XP operating system)
• Upgrade and enlarge a system with just one software update, without touching the hardware
• Document and print all project data in detail
• Print adhesive labels for the connector strips
• Easily update and/or re-programme the system in the event of modifications or expansions
• Manage the MULTIMASTER and MULTISLAVE programming
• Be totally independent during the development of the project
